Benefits of Volunteering
Some of the best reasons and benefits
of volunteering are the ones that may not immediately come to
mind — they are the ones though that make it worth your while
to go that extra step. People who have spent time volunteering for
a cause report that they get back in satisfaction and joy more than
they ever expend in inconvenience or effort. You will receive these
benefits as a volunteer within this society:
- Volunteering makes you feel
needed and purposeful.
- Volunteers gain training and experience
in a social service setting.
- Volunteering helps to improve your
community.
- Volunteering can lead to learning
new skills or improving existing ones.
- Volunteering helps you meet
new people.
- Volunteering can create new
contacts which may help your career.
- Volunteers are reimbursed for
thier mileage and recieve references upon request
Philosophy of Volunteering
The following is a statement of philosophy under which volunteers
are encouraged to participate in their services provided by the
Society:
- The Society believes that volunteers
are a valuable asset and a vital link in enhancing services.
- The Society recognizes the need to
offer volunteers support, training and supervision in the most
effective manner based on staff skills and resources available.
- The Society should provide volunteers
with opportunities that offer challenges and satisfaction.
- The Society is prepared to permit
volunteers some flexibility and some individual initiative in
providing services, yet retain sufficient authority through an
effective accountability system.
Support for Volunteers
Volunteers receive direction and
support from a variety of areas. Volunteers who work directly with
clients are provided supervision and direction by the client's worker and
volunteer drivers receive supervision from the Volunteer Drive Coordinator.
The Community Resource Worker provides supervision and direction
and advocacy for volunteers who need it.
