“Family and Children’s Services is committed to protecting the children and strengthening the families of Leeds and Grenville in cooperation
with the community.”
Core Values – Service
We believe that…
- Every child in Leeds and Grenville has the right to a safe and nurturing family where they can be free to be children, have fun and positively anticipate the future.
- Our efforts must be focused on keeping children safe.
- Children should have their basic needs met including food, shelter, clothing, health care and education.
- The best place for a child to grow up is most often with his or her own family. When substitute care is necessary, on-going access and planning with the child and the child’s family is essential to achieve permanency.
- All children require permanency, stability and continuity, wherever possible in a single placement. These needs are best met when services are provided according to the following preferences:
- Services with the child’s family are preferable to temporary substitute care.
- If substitute care is required, it is best provided by extended family or a family known to the child in the community.
- Foster Care is preferable to group or institutional care.
- Adoption is preferable to long-term society care.
- Use of resources close to the child’s community is preferable to use of distant resources.
- All of our clients must be treated with respect and dignity to promote their autonomy and independence.
- Families have the right to expect clearly defined services that are appropriate to their circumstances and ensure the safety of their children.
- All services will be provided in a manner that respects individual differences and cultures.
