Administration and Support Services
Summary of Departments
Adoption Services:
Develop the appropriate adoption home resources and provide the necessary services of assessment, placement, supervision, and ongoing support and documentation, to enable the adoption of all children requiring this form of permanent placement. Enable adoptees, birth parents, and eligible birth relatives to receive adoption disclosure information in accordance with the provisions of the Child & Family Services Act.
After Hours Services:
Child Protection Workers are available 24-hours per day to respond to any inquiries and referrals regarding allegations of a child protection nature. After hours staff can be contacted via telephone by leaving a message with the answering service.
Family Services/Children’s Services:
Delivers or arranges and oversees services required by families and children to alleviate the need for protection. Workers have caseloads of families in the community whom they continue to support after an Intake worker has completed an assessment. These are cases that tend to be more long term in nature in order to address the individual concerns of the family. These workers also carry Children’s Services cases if it has become necessary for a child to enter the care of the Society. It is the responsibility of this worker to ensure the child’s needs are met while they are “in care”, which would include: cultural needs, educational needs, medical and dental care, court and visits with the natural family. The Family Services/Children’s Services worker works to ensure the child and family receives appropriate services and works towards reuniting the child with their family as soon as it is safe to do so.
Foster Care Services:
Recruit, train and assess prospective foster/adoptive applicants so that, to the greatest extent possible, the Agency has sufficient and appropriate foster care and adoptive resources which can best meet and promote the care, growth, and developmental needs of children and youth who require these types of care.
Residential Services: Ensure that through direct casework and other programming with residents, youth and children in the care of the agency are provided with high quality services in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment in accordance with MCSS legislation and Agency Policy.
Intake Services:
Investigate and assess allegations of children in need of protection as defined by the Child and Family Services Act, and provide immediate protection to children where necessary. Intake workers take initial information regarding child protection concerns via telephone, letter, office visit or facsimile and will determine if and how the matter will be investigated. The intake team assesses all matters that have been deemed eligible for service to ensure safety for the children involved and identify supports required. Social workers are trained to interview children, assess family situations, work with police and attend court if necessary.
In-Home Family Support:
The Society employs family support workers who are experienced in parenting and child behaviour strategies. The society provides a family support service to assist parents in maintaining children in the natural home or assisting in having the child returned home. This program is designed to provide intensive, short-term services in a manner that respects the integrity of the family.
Administration Services:
Develop and maintains effective administrative services and related accountable business practices to support and achieve the mission and vision of the agency.
Human Resources:
Develops and maintains effective human resource, training and development, staff services and related accountable business practices to achieve the vision and mission of the agency.
Finance and Property Maintenance:
Develops and maintains effective financial and property management services and related accountable business practices to achieve the vision and mission of the agency.
Volunteer Services:
The Society recruits, trains and support volunteers to enhance and support the work of the Society in a number of areas from one to one support to volunteer drives.
Information and Technology Services:
Develops and maintains effective information and services and related accountable business practices to achieve the mission and vision of the agency.
Ensures that legal counsel along with administrative support staff is available to provide legal advice and guidance in child protection matters; to represent the agency in the conduct of child protection proceedings before the courts; to provide training to staff regarding relevant legislation and legal practices.
